Support Summer Student Assistants

$5,750

Home Missions provides grants to help offset the costs for mission-minded churches to host a summer student assistant from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. In this ten-week “mini vicar experience”, students receive valuable experience and home mission congregations receive needed assistance. Interest has grown in this program, and additional funds are needed as this program is funded solely through special gifts. Home Missions has received grant requests totaling $5,750 for two 2024 summer student assistants:

Austin, TX – $3,750

Holy Word in Austin, TX, is requesting a summer vicar that will assist in exploring the potential of planting a new church in nearby Jarrell, TX. This student assistant would get involved in the community and run outreach events to meet people, follow up with prospects, lead small group bible studies, assist with preaching at Holy Word, and more.

Chattanooga and Crossville, TN – $2,000

Living Hope in Chattanooga and Ascension in Crossville are two home mission churches in Tennessee that are about an hour and a half apart. They are partnering to host a summer student assistant that would split his time at the two congregations to assist in various outreach initiatives.

Gifts given above and beyond $5,750 towards this project will assist other home mission congregations in a hosting summer student assistant.
